The difference between graphite electrode and carbon electrode
1679293298

Graphite electrode is an important high-temperature conductive material for electrical steelmaking. Carbon electrodes are also a conductive material and are made from metallurgical coke and anthracite coal. Small amounts of natural graphite are also sometimes used in the manufacture of carbon electrodes. Coal tar pitch is used as binder, needle coke is used as aggregate, and graphite electrode is used as high-quality refractory raw material. It is made through various production processes such as crushing, calcination, extrusion, kneading, graphitization, impregnation, packaging, and manufacturing.

When it comes to carbon electrodes and graphite electrodes, we always think that carbon electrodes andgraphite electrodes are the same. But the real truth is that they are not the same, because the carbon electrode comes in different thicknesses and multiple sizes, but it feels like a piece of fabric. Carbon electrodes are flexible, but graphite is not. The main difference is the purity of graphite in the form of a pencil lead, which is partly clay filler and carbon electrodes in a rod shape that looks a lot like a pencil lead. Each electrode is used in a different application and provides different kinds of benefits based on its chemistry. But compared to graphite, carbon is a good conductor of electricity and is mainly used where electrons need to be transported.

Uses of graphite electrodes and carbon electrodes

Graphite electrodes are mainly used in electric furnace steelmaking process, while carbon is mainly used in electrochemical analysis or electrochemical experiment process. Carbon is a good conductor of electric current and a key condition for the success of electrolysis. When carbon electrodes are used in electrolysis processes, the number of electrons that move freely creates a highly conductive material. It also has a very high melting point, which means it can facilitate a variety of different reactions. Other benefits of using carbon are its longevity, ease of procurement and relatively low cost.
