Matters needing attention to ensure smooth production of EAF steelmaking

Electric Arc Furnace steelmaking is one of the main methods of steelmaking. It is heated by an intense electric arc created between graphite electrodes and metallic material. The arc can generate a high temperature of 3000℃~6000℃. On the one hand, it can smelt insoluble metals, on the other hand, it also brings heat radiation hazards to iron and steel workers during the operation process. During the smelting process, the electric furnace will also generate a large amount of smoke and dust, which directly endangers the health of workers. Ignoring the specification requirements during operation can easily cause injury accidents. To this end, the following aspects should be paid attention to ensure smooth production:

(1) Electric furnace charging

Be careful not to add harmful elements when charging, such as copper, zinc, tin, lead, etc., these elements will reduce the quality of steel. Charges must not be mixed with explosives to avoid explosion accidents. When feeding, people try to stand on their side, not facing the furnace door and steel slag, to prevent the steel slag from splashing and hurting people. After the charge is completely melted, do not add wet material to avoid an explosion.

(2) The smelting process

In the process of smelting, accidents may occur if the operation is not done properly. Power distribution personnel must understand the smelting process's power distribution requirements and strengthen the transformers' maintenance and cooling. At the same time, when the furnace is boiling during the oxidation period during the smelting process, attention should also be paid to power outages. And the electrodes should be raised in time; the power must be cut off when knocking and lifting the electrodes.

When replacing the electrodes, the power supply must be cut off first, and the operator must stand firm, and not use too much force when wiring to prevent gloves and work clothes from hanging on the equipment.

During the process of oxygen blowing, the pressure of oxygen blowing should not be too high, the holding part should be farther away from the joints, and the oxygen blowing tube should not poke material.

When the oxygen blowing is stopped, the oxygen should be turned off first, and then the oxygen-blowing tube should be taken out.

When the operator stands in front of the furnace, he should stand on both sides of the furnace door as much as possible.

When violent boiling occurs in the furnace, the power supply should be cut off immediately, the electrode should be lifted, the feeding and oxygen-blowing procedures should be stopped, and corresponding measures should be taken.

When preparing to open steel, it is necessary to cooperate closely and coordinate collective work. Operators should not stand behind others, avoid adding oxidants in front of the furnace, and pour molten steel not too fast to avoid splashing and hurting people or damaging equipment.
